Journey to Hodod's Historic Castles

The Wesselényi Castle, built in the 1760s in Hodod,  Transylvania, is a prominent example of Baroque architecture. Initially a private residence, its design includes a courtyard-facing façade and a flower garden.

Stephen Báthory, the Prince of Transylvania, bestowed Hodod upon Ferenc Wesselényi. The settlement, which held the privilege of hosting markets, served as the principal base for the Wesselényi family until a division in the family led one branch to relocate to Jibou. Over the centuries, it transformed from a town hall to a school and library, reflecting its adaptability to community needs.

The Unique Charm of Transylvanian baroque Architecture

From the first moment, it was clear that we were dealing with a completely unique example of Transylvanian baroque castle architecture, but after completing our survey, we were convinced that the castle has a charming atmosphere that surpasses many more recognized ones.

BIM Services and Digitization for Historical Preservation

With our team, we conducted a building survey, providing scan to BIM services to the client. Our goal, after digitizing the current state of the building, is to construct the BIM model, so that our colleagues can prepare the tourism analysis and concept plan.

We modeled the baroque façade decorations, doors, windows, and the unique (and irregularly shaped) vaults of the main building’s cellar in great detail, and even noticed a walled-up room in the point cloud.

Precision in BIM Modeling for Historic Buildings

During the BIM modeling phase of the project, we aimed to keep the horizontal and vertical margin of error between reality and the digital twin model below 5 cm, which is the most commonly practiced professional standard for historic buildings. We are proud to say that we modeled the baroque roof structure with this level of precision.
